1 . Application of your permits/citizenship

Types of Occupation Permit

Requirements

Investor

  • An initial transfer of USD 50,000 and an annual turnover of at least Rs 4 million (about USD 85,000) from the 3rd year of operations.

  • If you plan to bring high-tech equipment within the required investment of USD 50,000, you must transfer a minimum of USD 25,000 and the balance of USD 25,000 in terms of high-tech equipment.

  • If you plan to conduct research and development (R&D) projects in highly innovative sectors, you may be able to apply for an Innovator Occupation Permit.

Professional

  • Pay you a monthly salary of more than Rs 60,000 (USD 1,300).

  • Or a salary higher than Rs 30,000 (USD 650) if you operate in sectors of activity such as new technologies, call centers, the manufacture of pharmaceutical products and the food industry, etc.

Self-Employed

  • You must deposit 35,000 USD (or its equivalent in the currency of your choice) in a bank account in Mauritius. These funds can then be used as you see fit; buy a vehicle, an apartment, etc.
  • You must generate an income of around EUR 17,000 from the third year after obtaining the permit. (we are talking about turnover here, not profit)

Retirement

  • An initial amount of USD 1,500 must be paid into your Mauritius account.

  • You must transfer a minimum of 1,500 USD per month or 18,000 USD per year into your account.

Residence Permit

  • Must acquire residential property under the scheme IRS, RES, PDS or an apartment in a building of at least 2 floors above ground floor.

  • Purchase price must be at least USD 375,000.

Permanent Residence Permit

  • Investor: Holds an OP for at least 3 years with a minimum annual gross income of at least MUR 15M for 3 years preceding the application or an aggregate turnover of MUR 45M for any consecutive period of 3 years preceding the application.

  • Professional: Holds an OP for at least 3 years, with a basic monthly salary of at least MUR 150,000 for 3 consecutive years immediately preceding the application for the Permanent Residence Permit.

  • Self-Employed: Holds an OP for at least 3 years with an annual business income of at least MUR 3 million for the 3 consecutive years, immediately preceding the application for the Permanent Residence Permit.

  • Retired Non-Citizen: Holds an RP as a Retired Non-Citizen for at least 3 years with transfer of at least USD 54,000 or its equivalent in freely convertible foreign currency during the period of 3 years preceding the application.

  • PRP under Qualifying activities: An investor who invests at least USD 375,000 in a qualifying business activity is also eligible to apply for the 20-year residence permit.

Renewal of Permits

  • Dependent on type of permit the applicant holds.

Citizenship

  • Must be a Commonwealth Citizen.

  • Must have resided in Mauritius for the last 5 years.

A dependent Occupation Permit may be applied for dependents (Spouse and children)

2 . Application of your visa

Requirements

Young Professional

  • Student must have completed:
    • At least an undergraduate degree in a tertiary education institution recognized by the Higher Education Commission.
    • An international recognised professional certification equivalent to at least an
      undergraduate degree dispensed by a registered institution in Mauritius

Premium

  • Under no circumstances should you enter the Mauritian labor market; your main source of income and profit must be outside of Mauritius.

  • You must produce documents to support your request, such as the purpose of the visit, an accommodation reservation, etc.

  • Other basic immigration requirements.

Student

  • A non-citizen enrolled on one or more programmes in a recognized tertiary educational institution or Technical and Vocational Educational and Training(TVET) institution to follow on a full-time basis specific modules for one semester or two, a course leading to a certificate or diploma for a duration of at least one academic year.

  • A non-citizen enrolled in a recognized tertiary educational institution to follow full-time or part-time degree course at under-graduate level.

  • A non-citizen enrolled in a recognized tertiary educational institution to follow full-time or part-time course at post graduate levels (including Masters, MPhil or Doctoral level).

  • A non-citizen carrying out post Doctoral research.

  • A non-citizen coming to Mauritius on an exchange programme not exceeding one year with a recognized tertiary educational institution.
